September:

GGE established the first all-girls basketball league at the Bedford-Stuyvesant YMCA. Over 80 girls aged 7-12 participated in a total of 8 teams and were coached by 15 women volunteers. The GGE leagues were sponsored by the Police Athletic League (P.A.L.) and ran from September 11, 2001-May 2002.

December:

GGE hosted and organized the community’s first Mother/Daughter Play Day.
