Urban Leaders After-School Academy:
Urban Leaders After-School Academy is a holistic after-school program designed to help young men and women, ages 11-15, at MS 61, located in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, achieve academic excellence, explore career education, and maintain healthy lifestyles.
Job Title: Outreach Administrator
Objective: The Outreach Administrator serves at the discretion of the program director and performs critical assignments involving management of the program and supervision/direction of interns, volunteers, and instructors. The Outreach Administrator works directly with the program director to ensure that all daily administrative duties and student workshops are completed in the Urban Leaders After-School Academy.

- Track registration, attendance, class schedules, and maintain all necessary paper work for smooth operation of Urban Leaders After-School Academy.
- Create and update all word and excel documents (attendance forms, parent letters, etc.)
- Assist in planning and co-facilitating professional development trainings for instructors
- Plan special events including monthly “Diversity Dinners”
- Assist in administrative work, including but not limited to: answering phones, making copies, supervising volunteers and interns, and neighborhood outreach
- Act as advisor and supervisor of high-school aged interns both in class and in Urban Leaders office located in room 228 (at MS61)
- Coordinate and organize students when they are dismissed from day-school into the after-school program
- Enforce classroom attendance, behavior, and management
- Ensure the students sign out and exit the building safely at the end of the day
- Assist with recruitment and retention of program participants
Interested candidates should be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, have a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a relevant field and/or three or more years of applicable experience. The ideal candidate should have experience with teens, general knowledge of sexual harassment, emergency situations, conflict resolution, and a working knowledge of the NYC school system. Schedule will be Monday- Friday from 1:00-6:00 p.m.(flexible hours a couple days of the week). Pay is $15/hour. Room for advancement within the agency.

Sisters in Strength Youth Organizing Program:
Sisters in Strength Youth Organizing is a year-long internship for teen girls of color living in low-income communities to learn grassroots organizing skills, develop their leadership abilities, and think critically about social justice issues and how to create social change.
SIS confronts the multiple layers of individual and institutional discrimination that threatens the safety of girls and women through five core components:
1. Youth Leadership: Building and utilizing skills in grassroots organizing to address the multiple barriers to young women living lives of self-determination
2. Community Service: Mentoring middle school girls and boys to learn professionalism, build leadership skills, and increase community connection
3. Consciousness Raising: Challenging one’s self and influencing others to think critically about systems of oppression and the roles individuals and communities play in these systems
4. Social Growth and Identity: Gaining support in daily struggles while defining and working toward future goals
5. Education and Career: Asserting the importance of education and making education more accessible for young women of color
Job Title: SIS Intern
Objective: Girls for Gender Equity is seeking young women, ages 16-19 years old, to apply for a part-time, paid Community Organizing Internship (August 2008-June 2009) with our Sisters in Strength program. The internship will focus on Youth Leadership, Consciousness Raising, Social Growth and Identity, Education and Career, and Community Service. Interns receive a stipend of $8/hour to work up to 10 hours/week throughout the duration of the internship.
