Thank You For Supporting Girls for Gender Equity
Anita Hill telling her own story, on her terms, is how it should be. So many times our story as girls and women of color are appropriated, interpreted, bedazzled and redefined by others to fit neatly into this capitalistic, patriarchal and poli-tricks driven nation. Even within this nonprofit industrial complex, the deep roots of sexism, racism and classism are always at play. We worked so hard to promote this film because it tells young people and survivors that their experiences and voices matter. That this woman of color who looks like them matters and even 22 years later she will continue speaking and living truth to power – even though it’s hard.
I thank you so much for supporting Girls for Gender Equity and the film. Our young people have a vibrant cameo; Emily Carpenter brilliantly represents our story and captures the soul of GGE. Our short time on screen provides the intergenerational hope that young people and girls of color are NOT complacent about rape culture and that their spark can ignite a fire storm of change as we do this together.
Everyone really came through and we truly hope this movie will change hearts and minds about sexual harassment and gender-based violence; about believing survivors, and about valuing cis and trans girls and women – girls and women of color in particular.
We do not make any proceeds from this film, so please consider donating to Girls for Gender Equity to ensure we can continue to encourage young people to tell their own story, to use their voice and know that, like Anita Hill, they have everything it takes to speak their truth.
With deep gratitude and love, Thank you.
